GETTING AROUND QUEENSTOWN & THE SKI RESORTS

Queenstown, its surrounding suburbs, and the two ski resorts are quite spread out, but easy to travel between! Queenstown does experience some traffic congestion, especially on weekday afternoons/evenings – factor this into your planning to make it Main Arena in time for your favourite act!

Coronet Peak and The Remarkables are individual ski resorts. How to get there:

Snow Machine Main Arena is located in Frankton, near the airport. How to get there:

  • You can catch one of our festival bus transfers (see info below: Main Arena Shuttles)
  • Catch a taxi/Uber (be prepared for high-demand pricing)
  • Catch a public bus (jump on the ① to Red Oaks Drive, or the ③ to Remarkables Park)

Check out the lay of the land below! Majority of accommodation is located in Queenstown CBD, a short walk to the bustling nightlife and incredible cafes & restaurants. Snow Machine festival transfers will have pick up/drop off locations in Queenstown CBD, along Frankton Road (along the bottom of Queenstown Hill), and in Frankton.

GETTING AROUND

BY CAR / TAXI / UBER

If you like doing things on your own time, and have a designated driver, hiring a car is a great way to get around Queenstown. If you’re planning to drive up to the ski resorts, make sure you hire snow chains as these must be carried when driving on alpine roads.

Rideshare is also a great way to get you exactly where you need to be! Please note that taxis can be expensive in Queenstown (especially in the early hours of the morning), and be prepared for high-demand surcharge pricing with Uber, especially on Main Arena nights.

BY PUBLIC BUS

Queenstown has a great public bus network linking all the surrounding suburbs to Queenstown CBD. See more information on routes and timetables HERE.
Please note: buses either accept cash $4 per trip ($10 to/from the airport), or you can buy a Bee Card and preload it for discounted tap-on travel (can be purchased at the airport or Queenstown iSite Visitor Centre).

BY BOAT

Queenstown is based on the edge of beautiful Lake Wakatipu. Queenstown Ferries operates a water taxi between Queenstown CBD, Kelvin Heights (Bayview), Frankton Marina, and Hilton. Check their website for timetables. $10-$14 (one-way). Looking for an interesting way to get to Main Arena? Jump on the water taxi to Hilton, then it’s a 30min walk to the Main Arena

BY FESTIVAL BUS

We have festival transfers running to get you to the Main Arena (Thu-Sat), and the Après Stages on mountain (Wed-Sat). See more details below:

MAIN ARENA SHUTTLES

Includes:

  • 3 Day Main Arena Transfers to get to you to and from our Main Arena in the evenings; Thu 10th – Sat 12th September

Price: $30 NZD per person (cheaper than a one-way taxi!)

You can purchase your Main Arena transfer on our website HERE – please pre-purchase to secure your spot. You will redeem your ticket for a wristband from the Snow Machine Store, Boundary St bus stop, or box office at Main Arena.

Buses running on a loop to Main Arena 4PM – 8PM
Return buses start from 8.30PM to get you home (or to the after parties!)

SNOW MACHINE TRANSFERS

Snow Machine Transfers include daily return transport:

  • to the ski resorts for 4 days of Après Stages; Wed 9th – Sat 12th September
  • to the Main Arena for 3 nights of headline performances; Thu 10th – Sat 12th September (as outlined above)

Price: $150 NZD per person

You can purchase your Main Arena transfer on our website HERE – please pre-purchase to secure your spot. You will redeem your ticket for a wristband from the Snow Machine Store, or Snow Machine guest services inside the Station Building (check the app for locations and open hours). If you have a Snow Machine package, your transfer wristband will be included in your welcome pack upon arrival to your accommodation (unless purchased after 28th August).

Our Snow Machine Transfers have pick up locations in Queenstown and Frankton. Download the Snow Machine App (App Store / Google Play) and click into the map to see bus stop locations. Resort bus stops are marked with green (Remarkables) and blue (Coronet Peak) bus icons – click on a bus stop and swipe right to see the bus route.

When you’re heading up to the ski resorts, one bus route takes you to The Remarkables (green flags) and the other route takes you to Coronet Peak (blue flags). As the ski resorts are not close to the town center, please factor journey time and wait times into planning your day on the mountain. There may be wait times between bus loops, we ask for your patience and understanding.

If you want to head up the mountain any days outside of these 4 days (9th-12th) you will need to book resort transfers directly with NZSki.
